He attended Howard University in Washington D.C., where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began working as an accountant at Deloitte & Touche LLP.
An incredibly devoted family man, Emerson married the love of his life Nanette (née Brown) in 1991 and together they raised two beautiful children—their daughter Isabella and son Benjamin. As a father, Emerson was supportive and encouraging of their dreams and aspirations. He had an unwavering faith that they would both accomplish great things later in life.
Throughout his life, Emerson demonstrated a commitment to service and community activism. In addition to being active in several local charities and organizations, he served on the board of directors for The Children’s Aid Society for eight years.
